The Rundown
The Phoenix saw its first sign of trouble in the bottom of the third. The Camels had its leadoff runner reach on a walk and advanced to second via a one-out single through the right side by Megan Mozingo. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch with the bags becoming full on another walk. Elon escaped the jam as the Phoenix induced the final two outs on a fielder’s choice double play to Ally Repko at third.

In the bottom of the fourth, Campbell once again loaded the bases with one or fewer outs. A walk and back-to-back singles for the first three batters made the bags full for the Camels, but Elon recovered to record the next two outs on a foul out and a fielder’s choice. However, a Phoenix error on an errant throw to third led to Campbell plating the first run of the game and take a 1-0 lead.

Elon’s offense came alive in the top of the sixth. Katrina Martin led off with a walk and was replaced on the bases by Morgan Reich. After a foul out, Shutt moved Reich to second on a bunt single to give the Phoenix two runners on. Olson tied the game at one-all on a RBI double into right center to score Reich and push herself and Shutt into scoring position. Shutt would cross home plate on a fielder’s choice RBI from Serafini with Serafini advancing to second on the play to keep runners in scoring position for the Phoenix. A wild pitch added another score for the Phoenix as Olson plated the third run of the frame for Elon. Two more runs came across the plate in the sixth for the Phoenix, who took a 5-1 advantage to the seventh.

The Phoenix added two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Serafini drove a two-out bloop single into right field to score Shutt and Olson as Elon carried a 7-1 advantage into the bottom of the frame.

Campbell responded with two more runs as the Camels attempted to rally in their home half of the seventh. After the first two batters of the inning reached on free passes, Elon made a switch in the circle as Barker took over for Quinn. A wild pitch would advance both runners into scoring position as Campbell looked to get back into the contest with no outs. Barker however induced the next two outs on strikeouts and was an out away from escaping the jam. The Camels answered with a two-out, two RBI double into left field to pull their deficit to four, 7-3. As Campbell looked to continue its momentum with a runner in scoring position, Barker thwarted the rally as she was able to force the final out on a foul out in in left field.
