College Men’s Tennis Final – Guilford 7, Va. Wesleyan 2

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Guilford College’s men’s tennis team swept the three doubles points and went on to a 7-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win at Virginia Wesleyan University Saturday.

The Quakers (3-2, 2-0 ODAC) got two wins apiece from Tate Godwin, Graham Pearson, and Mason Robb. Godwin teamed with Kai Glass for an 8-3 third-doubles win over the Marlins’ Drew Fairbanks and Andreas Combos. Pearson teamed with Chasen Chacon for a 9-7 first-doubles triumph over Mitchell Perry and Paul Gladstone. Robb and Elijah Gregory took down Ishan Chatterjee and Michael Portera, 8-3, in the second-doubles contest.

Godwin knocked off Gladstone at first singles, 6-3, 6-4. Robb yielded just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 win over Perry at second singles. Pearson captured the fourth-singles match, 6-2, 6-2, over Virginia Wesleyan’s Portera. Jarad Gandy accounted for the Quakers’ seventh point with a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) win at sixth singles.

Combos and Chatterjee had singles wins for the Marlins (1-3, 0-1 ODAC).

Coach Dave McCain’s Quakers match at Randolph-Macon, scheduled for Sunday (3/11) has been postponed due to the threat of rain. The team’s next scheduled contest is Wednesday (3/14) at 3:00 p.m. against visiting Roanoke College.
