College Women’s Tennis Final – Roanoke 9, Guilford 0

GREENSBORO, N .C. – Visiting Roanoke College posted its sixth straight win Saturday with a 9-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women’s tennis triumph at Guilford College. The Maroons (6-1, 1-1 ODAC) dropped just six games in winning the nine matches.

Jessica Kennedy and Avery Smith both won twice atop Roanoke’s lineup. The pair teamed for an 8-1 first-doubles win over the Quakers’ Olivia La Ganza and Makayla McLaurin. Kennedy took the first-singles bout with McLaurin, 6-0, 6-0, and Smith topped Guilford’s Brooklyn Hopkins at second singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Madeline Herring and Janny Alvarado were also two-time winners for the Maroons. Herring downed La Ganza at third singles, 6-1, 6-2, and teamed with Catherine Lee for an 8-1 second-doubles victory over Hopkins and Natalie Whitmeyer. Alvarado and Anna Martin won at third doubles over Guilford’s Megan Kimpel and Aly Rock, 8-0. Alvarado took the fourth-singles match from Whitmeyer, 6-0, 6-0.

Coach Dave McCain’s Quakers (0-6, 0-4 ODAC) visit Ferrum College Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in a nonleague match.
