HPU Women’s Track & Field 4×800 Breaks School Record at Charlotte 49ers Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The High Point University men’s and women’s track and field teams completed action at the Charlotte 49ers Classic Saturday (March 17) in Charlotte.

The women’s 4x800m relay of freshmen Famke Heinst, Carolina Baudinet and Franzi Jakobs and junior Keaton Case broke the school record and finished first in a time of 9:03.16. The previous record was 9:16.34, set at the 2009 Penn Relays.

In the men’s pole vault, sophomore Carter Clasper placed fourth with a height of 4.65m (15-3), while fellow sophomore Jordan McClung was 12th after clearing a height of 4.35m (14-3.25).

Sophomore Kanajzae Brown finished 13th in the women’s 200 meters in 24.65. In the men’s meters, freshman Levi Williams placed 30th in 22.11.

Senior CeAnna Soper placed 21st in the women’s javelin with a throw of 35.56m (116-8).

In the men’s shot put, sophomore Britton Mann placed 25th with a mark of 13.81m (45-3.75). He also finished placed 26th in the discus with a throw of 39.91m (130-11).

In the 3,000 meters, sophomore TJ Morales finished 26th in 9:06.01.

“Like most track meets, we had some really good, some in the middle and some not so good results,” HPU head coach Mike Esposito said. “I’m very pleased with Kanajzae Brown having two solid races in two days. She makes us a much more complete track team. I think this outdoor opener bodes very well for her head to our main event schedule.

“We had some nice performances in the 1,500 yesterday and I’m extremely pleased with our two finishers in the women’s 10K. Our vaulters had a solid opener and I know that Coach (Scott) Houston will have them ready when they are needed most.”

Up next, the Panthers travel over to Winston-Salem on March 24 to take part in the Wake Forest Outdoor Opener.
