RALEIGH, N.C. – The Greensboro College softball team dropped a USA South Athletic Conference doubleheader against the Angels of Meredith College Sunday by scores of 2-1 and 4-3.

“We saw some good things today but were unable to come out on top,” Head Coach Teresa Fister said. “Our team is ready to work and make the adjustments we need to for our upcoming conference games.”

Game one
Meredith was able to take a 2-0 into the seventh inning after scoring one run in the first and fifth innings.

In the seventh, Hannah Stackhouse singled with one out in the inning before advancing into scoring position on a Cayleigh Norton groundout.

Norton then came in to score on an Angels error off the bat of Jasmine Worthy to pull the Pride to within one but was unable to score the game-tying run.

Cassise Collins had a team-high two hits, while Maddy Wetherholt was credited with the loss.

Game two
Greensboro took an early lead in the first inning as Worthy came across the plate after stealing third base and an error on the Meredith catcher.

However, Meredith took the lead from Greensboro in the bottom half before extending their lead to 3-1 with a run in the third.

The Pride then battled back to tie the game at three in the fourth as Hayley Tickle hit a RBI double to score Erynne Chalk, putting runners on second and third base.

Greensboro got their second run and final run of the inning on another Angels error.

With the game tied at three heading in to the bottom half of the seventh, Meredith score the game winning run on a bases loaded walk.

Worthy had two hits in the game, while Melissa Garcia, Collins, Tickle and Allyson Loy had one hit each. Cox was credited with loss and struck out five batters.

The Pride was slated to return to action on Tuesday at Ferrum College, but that series has been moved to Thursday, March 22 due to the treat of inclement weather. For more information on Greensboro College softball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
