GREENSBORO, N.C – The Greensboro College softball team dropped a doubleheader against the Panthers of Ferrum College Saturday by the scores of 5-3 and 4-2.

Game 1

Ferrum took a two-run lead in the fourth inning before putting up three more runs in the fifth inning.

Working with a five-run deficit in the top of the sixth inning, Jasmine Worthy was issued a walk. Worthy then advanced to third base after Melissa Garcia laid down a bunt and advanced to second on a throwing error.

With two runners on base and no outs, Taylor Little stepped up to the plate and doubled into the right-center gap to bring in both Worthy and Garcia.

After Little cut the deficit to three runs, she later advanced to third after Regen Lockwood grounded out to third.

When Hayley Tickle stepped up to the plate, Greensboro had two outs and Little on third. Tickle took her pitch and laid it down into left field to bring Little home.

Although the Pride started up a late rally, they were unable to catch up to the Panthers and fell by the two-run deficit.

Game 2

Ferrum, once again, put up the first run of the game.

The Panthers took an early one-run lead in the first inning.

Greensboro finally answered back in the fourth inning after Cheyenne Cox brought in Erynne Chalk on a ground-out.

With the score tied at 1-1 by the end of the seventh inning, Worthy returned to the plate and laced the ball into right field for a single.

Worthy later advanced to third after two ground outs by the Pride and returned home on a wild pitch.

Greensboro took their first lead of the night at 2-1, but were unable to tack on more runs in the top of the eighth. The Panthers then scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to end the game.

“We respect every team we play and felt like tonight we did not play to our potential,” Head Coach Teresa Fister said.

“We missed opportunities and know that we cannot take plays off against any team.”

Maddy Wetherholt was credited the loss in Game 1, despite pitching six innings and striking out two batters. Cox struck out five batters over 7 2/3 innings and was credited the loss in Game 2.

The Pride will return to their home field at Latham Park tomorrow when they host North Carolina Wesleyan College for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. For more information on Greensboro College softball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
