Elon Personal Records Set the Tone at Winthrop Adidas Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Elon University women’s track and field team saw three members of its squad set new personal-records as the Phoenix competed on the first day at the Winthrop Adidas Invitational on Friday, March 23, at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Complex.

RESULTS

In the hammer throw, Skylar Barthelmes moved to third on the program’s all-time list in the event as the Dartmouth, Mass., native established a new personal-best. Barthelmes had a toss of 170′ 10″ (52.06m) and was fourth overall. Teammate Bre’anna Warren joined Barthelmes in the top-five of the Phoenix’s performance list in the hammer throw as the Greensboro, N.C., native threw a personal-record mark of 166’8.75″ (50.81m). She finished sixth in the event.

Melody Burke set her new personal-best mark in the long jump as the Concord, Va., native had a leap of 18′ 3″ (5.56m). That jump was good for fifth overall as the Phoenix’s top finisher in the event.

Warren was the runner-up and the top collegiate finisher in the shot put with a throw of 47’9.25″ (14.56m). Bryanna Hames joined Warren in the top-four with her throw of 44′ 7″ (13.59m), good for fourth overall.

Katie Arbogast posted the fastest time in the qualifying round of the 400-meters as the Media, Pa., native clocked a prelim time of 57.08. Lauren Brzozowski also raced her way to the final round with a time of 58.78. Arbogast and Brzozowski will race in the final round on Saturday.

Emily Dixon had a cleared height of 5′ 2.50″ (1.59m) in the high jump for the Phoenix, good for sixth overall. Burke also cleared the height at 5′ 2.50″, but needed more attempts and was eighth overall. Dixon just missed out on qualifying for the finals in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.92. Ellie Bennett was Elon’s top finisher in the pole vault with the junior clearing the bar at 11’1.75″ (3.40m), good for fourth overall.

The Phoenix returns for the second and final day of the Winthrop Adidas Invitational tomorrow, March 24. Events start at 9 a.m. with the triple jump.
