Carmen Curtis Set Two Guilford Track Records on Saturday

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Guilford College’s track and field teams had a handful of entrants for Saturday’s open portion of the Dr. Jack Toms Alumni Track & Field Invitational hosted by Lynchburg College.

Freshman Carmen Curtis set two Guilford College records to highlight the day. She started by finishing second in the 100M with a 13.27 clocking, bettering Karima Jackson’s 13.34 mark set in 2013. Curtis was runner-up in the 200M as well. Her time of 27:48 eclipsed the former school record of 28:03 by Alise Green at last year’s ODAC Championships.

Freshman Samantha Brown had two impressive finishes, too. She placed fourth in the 800M with a time of 2:32.66. In the 400M earlier in the day, her 1:09.46 was good enough for eighth in the race.

On the men’s side, no school records were set. Freshman Asa Bell, however, was second in the 100M after an 11.20 clocking.

John Martinez placed third in the 800M. His time was 2:07.46. Fellow sophomore Juwan Houston garnered a sixth-place finish in the 200M after posting a 23:42 mark.

The Quaker track and field teams next compete at the Terrier Relays. The two-day meet is hosted by Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. and begins on Friday, March 30.
