Elon Phoenix Close Out Track & Field Meet at Winthrop Adidas Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Three finishers in the top-four of the discus and a couple of runner-ups in the 400 and 800-meters showcased the Elon University women’s track and field team’s final day at the Winthrop Adidas Invitational on Saturday, March 24, at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Complex.

RESULTS

The Phoenix nearly swept the podium in the discus throw with Bre’anna Warren taking medalist honors with her throw of 163′ 3″ (49.75m). Bryanna Hames was the runner-up with her mark of 152′ 11.25″ (46.61m) while fellow teammate Skylar Barthelmes was fourth with her mark of 143′ 7.50″ (43.77m).

Katie Arbogast set her new personal-record in the finals of the 400-meters with her time of 56.57 as the runner-up. Lauren Brzozowski was fourth with her time of 1:00.05 in the race.

Melody Burke had a seventh-place finish for the Phoenix in the triple jump with her leap of 35′ 5.25″ (10.80m). Emily Dixon had a throw of 108′ 9″ (33.14m) in the javelin as the Phoenix’s top finisher in the event in sixth.

Chelsea Smith led the Phoenix in the 1,500-meter run as the Toms River, N.J., native was the runner-up with a time of 4:41.73. Elon took the second through fourth positions of the race as Natacha Savioz was next in third with her time of 4:44.73 and Paige King fourth with a personal-best time of 4:45.11. Two others, Sophia Tasselmyer (4:47.93) and Gabriela Varisco de Oliveira (4:48.61) also were in the top-10 of the race.

Meagan Henderson ran a time of 1:04.86 to lead the Phoenix in the 400-meters and was sixth overall. Kelly McCarten was Elon’s lone representative in the 800-meters with her time of 2:24.58.

Elon returns for the Raleigh Relays next weekend, March 30-31, at NC State.
