Big Offensive Attack Leads Pride To 12-1 Win In Series Finale Against Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Greensboro College baseball team recorded another conference series win Sunday after topping the Hawks of Huntingdon College, 12-1.
Greensboro struck for the game’s first run in the second inning when Blake Glass laced a ball over the right field wall for his first homerun of the season.
The Pride then broke the game wide open with a five-run third inning.
Tyler Price scored Blake Carroll all the way from first base with a double down the left field line before coming across to score on a Scotty McGuire single, while Glass also scampered across the plate. Greensboro then got their final run of the inning on a RBI double by Dillon Cox.
Following the five-run third, Greensboro got three more runs in the fourth inning before extending their lead to 11-0 with a two-run fifth. The two-run fifth inning was highlighted by an inside the park homerun by Carroll.
The Hawks then got their lone run of the game in the sixth, but could not get any closer as Greensboro tallied the game’s final run in the eighth on a RBI single by Brady Dignan.
“I am very proud of how this group responded after a tough loss last night,” Head Coach Frank Maldonado said. “(Tyler) Garam had a great three-pitch mix going and attacked their hitters. Scotty (McGuire) and Hunter (Curtis) continue to put together good at bats and it was nice to see Brady (Dignan) get going too.
“It was a good series win over a tough and well coached Huntingdon team.”
Greensboro finished the day with 19 hits. Hunter Curtis racked up four hits on five plate appearances, while Dignan and McGuire had three hits apiece. Glass, Cox and Carroll tallied two hits.
The Pride once again had another solid performance on the mound as Tyler Garam pitched seven innings of one-run baseball and only allowed five hits, while also recording three strikeouts, to pick up his second win of the season. Joseph Hoelle came in and allowed just one hit over the final two innings.
Greensboro will return to action Tuesday when they host the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College for a doubleheader. Game 1 will take place at 2 p.m. at Ted Leonard Park before the two teams travel to First National Bank Field, home of the Greensboro Grasshoppers, for Game 2 at 6 p.m.
