College Softball DH Finals: Roanoke 3-2, Guilford 1-0

ROANOKE, Va. — Roanoke College swept an Old Dominion Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from Guilford College on Wednesday night. The Maroons prevailed by scores of 3-1 and 2-0.

RC moved to 16-10 and 3-1 in ODAC action. The Quakers fell to 12-8 and 2-3 in league play.

In the opener, Emily Salsberry (6-3) held the Quakers to no earned runs two hits in the complete-game victory. Courtney Lackey (6-3) took the defeat. She gave up three runs (two earned).

Trailing 3-0, GC plated its lone run of the day in the sixth inning. Kayli Blankenship drew a leadoff walk. She was later bunted home by Katie McNeill.

Ruthie Williams had two of Roanoke’s seven hits in the contest.

In the nightcap, Teresa Wagner (6-3) threw a complete game shutout to help the Maroons to the 2-0 victory. She scattered eight Quaker hits and struck out four batters.

RC plated single runs in the second and third innings. Makayla Carver dropped to 2-4 on the year after taking the loss. She allowed five hits, four walks and fanned four Roanoke hitters.

Darby Kozan recorded two base hits for GC. For RC, Kate Priester collected two hits.

Guilford plays at Covenant (Ga.) College on Saturday. The non-conference doubleheader begins at 2 p.m.
