Elon Women’s Track & Field: Geraniotis, Hames Shine on Opening Day at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. – School records from senior Bryanna Hames and junior Coralea Geraniotis along with three others setting new personal-records with a couple of top-10 finishes were the highlights for Elon University women’s track and field team on its first day of competition at the Raleigh Relays on Friday, March 30, at the Paul Derr Track and Field Complex.

DAY ONE RESULTS

Geraniotis broke Allyson Oram’s ’14 previous school-record in the 5,000-meters as the Orleans, Mass., native clocked a time of 16:29.68 in the race – a new 18-second personal-record. She would finish 23rd overall in the very competitive field.

Hames set a new personal-record in the shot put as the Charlotte, N.C., native broke her own outdoor school-record. She had a heave of 51′ 1.5″ (15.58m) and finished as the runner-up in the event. Fellow senior Bre’anna Warren also finished in the top-10 of the event with her toss of 47′ 7.25″ (14.51m), good for eighth overall.

Hames followed with a season-best throw in the discus with her mark of 160′ 10″ (49.03m) and finished fifth overall. Warren was 10th overall in the discus with her mark of 152′ 1″ (46.37m).

In the 1,500-meters, Melissa Anastasakis set a new personal-record with her time of 4:29.80 in the race, moving to the fourth-best time in school history. The sophomore finished seventh overall while junior Chelsea Smith also established a new five-second personal-record with a time 4:35.79.

Katie Arbogast ran a new personal-best in the 400-meters for the Phoenix with her time of 56.49. Lauren Brzozowski ran a new season-best time of 57.54 in the race while Natacha Savioz clocked a 57.70.

Moira O’Malley was Elon’s top finisher in the high jump as the Harleysville, Pa., native cleared the bar at 5′ 3″ (1.60m).

The second and final day of the Raleigh Relays is set to begin at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, with the women’s hammer throw.
