GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women’s lacrosse team sailed past the Spirits of Salem College on senior day Saturday, 21-3.

Greensboro raced out to a 3-0 lead over the first four minutes of the game as Madison Blashaw, Natalie Ritchey and Laine Walston found the back of the net.

The Spirits then pulled within two goals following a goal with 23:17 left in the first half, but the Pride quickly regained their three-goal lead with a goal by Kara Whitson.

After regaining the three-goal lead, Greensboro was able to outscore Salem 12-1 over the final 22 minutes of the half to take a 16-2 lead into the break. Ritchey accounted for five goals during the run, while Whitson added three goals and Walston added two goals. Peyton Joyce and Blashaw had one goal each.

Following the break, Greensboro outscored Salem 5-1 over the final 30 minutes to secure the victory. Murphie Davis, Mackenzie Flemmons, Elizabeth Carr, Stephaine Carr and Walston each found the back of the net in the period.

“Great team win today,” head coach Jena Miller said. “Our starters did what they need to do in the first half so that we were able to move people around. Even when we moved people around to different positions than they were used to, they still worked hard and did a good job.

“Again, a great team win today. I am very proud of everyone, especially our seniors.”

Ritchey finished the game with a game-high six goals and four assists, while Walston tallied four goals and three assists. Whitson also finished with four goals.

The Pride women will return to action Thursday when they travel to St. Andrews University at 3 p.m. For more information on Greensboro College women’s lacrosse, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
