They played the 31st Annual Bobby Murray Baseball Tournament down in Raleigh back on Thursday and Friday, and what was to be a three-day tournament became a two-day event, with inclement weather moving in for Saturday, and by moving the tournament up and getting it done a day early, Bobby Murray officials were able to complete the tournament/event….

Raleigh Broughton won the 2018 Bobby Murray and it was the Capitals first tournament title since 1991…The Caps claimed the crown with their 12-2 victory over Corinth Holders…

The Southwest Guilford Cowboys won two-out-of three games in Raleigh with their 9-5 win over Rolesville, then SWG split two games with Heritage High out of Wake Forest, SWG falling in game one vs. the Huskies 3-0 and then coming back to defeat Heritage in game two, 19-7…

The tournament was divided into two pools: the Heritage (featuring Heritage, Broughton, Rolesville and Southwest Guilford) and Millbrook (Millbrook, Corinth Holders, Middle Creek and West Johnston).

Making the all-tournament team were: Broughton’s Joe Burrough(MVP), Kyle Ehlers, Penn Sealey and Campbell Nixon; Corinth Holders’ Carson Sakowski and Tanner Smith; Heritage’s Chris Katz; Southwest Guilford’s Jacob Edwards; West Johnston’s Jacob Siemion; Rolesville’s Spencer Hicks; Middle Creek’s Wade Chandler; Millbrook’s Brian Pearce.

The High Point Christian Academy Cougars finished second out of 96 teams in the Mingo Bay Baseball Classic, at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina…HPCA went (4-1) for the week at Myrtle Beach and the Cougars finished a strong second…
Results for the HPCA Cougars at the Mingo Bay Tournament:
4/3 vs. Cave Spring (Roanoke, VA)
(W) 14 – 4

4/4 vs. St. Albans (St. Albans, WV)
(W) 7 – 1

4/5 vs. Greenbrier Christian Academy (Chesapeake, VA)
(W) 4 – 0

4/6 vs. North Myrtle Beach @ North Myrtle Beach (Little River, SC)

Lost here in the Championship Game and we believe the Final score was, 3-1 St. James….St. James is the high school where former Ragsdale High School coach Tommy Norwood now coaches football…Neat side note and you can’t get away from the Guilford County Sports Connections….

Greensboro Day picked an 8-2 win over Gaston Day School, back on Friday…..
