College Softball Finals: #1 Virginia Wesleyan 9-10, Guilford 0-1

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Guilford College softball team lost an Old
Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader at top-ranked Virginia
Wesleyan College on Sunday. The Quakers lost by scores of 9-0 and 10-1
in run-rule games shortened to five innings.

The Marlins improved to 28-0 and 8-0 in ODAC play. The Quakers fell to
13-13 and 2-7 in league action.

VWC outhit Guilford 14-1 in game one. GC’s lone base hit was struck by
Sabrina Moreno. Katie McNeill (2-1) started and suffered the defeat
for the visitors. She tossed 2 2/3 innings, allowed seven earned runs
and nine Marlin hits.

Kiersten Richardson led Virginia Wesleyan batters. She hit 3-4 with
three runs scored, a home run and two RBI. Hannah Hull worked three
innings, allowed one hit and struck out four Quakers.

Makayla Carver led off the nightcap with a bang for GC. She homered in
the top of the first frame, but that was the lone tally in the 10-1
loss. Julie Gough (3-3) started and took the loss for Guilford. She
gave up eight runs (seven earned) and eight hits.

The Marlins scored three runs in the second inning and tacked on seven
in the third en route to the win. Richardson again owned the hot bat
for the VWC after going 2-3 with a home run and three runs batted in.

Hull picked up her second win of the day in the pitching circle. She
tossed three frames and allowed one run, two hits and fanned five
Quaker hitters. Hull is now 19-0 on the season for VWC.

Virginia Wesleyan recorded 10 hits in the contest to GC’s four.

The Quakers return to action on Wednesday (4/11) at Emory & Henry. The
ODAC doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
