GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men’s lacrosse team defeated the Wildcats of Randolph College Sunday, 9-7.

The Pride struck first as Ryan Cole and Michael Sehlhorst found the back of the net early in the first period.

The Wildcats answered back with their first goal of the game less than one minute later, but both Sehlhorst and Cole put up one goal each to extend the Pride’s lead to 4-1 going into the second period.

Randolph’s offense woke up in the second period and the Wildcats put up three goals.

Senior Victor Mehrtens was able to tack on one last goal to help the Pride hold onto a 5-3 lead going into the half.

Randolph’s offense caught fire at the start of the third period, as they put up three consecutive goals to take their first lead of the game at 6-5.

Cole gave the Pride the lead back with back-to-back goals, but the Wildcats scored less than two minutes later to tie the game up at 7-7.

Mehrtens then broke the tie and secured the Pride’s victory with back-to-back unassisted goals.

“This is the first time as a head coach that I have had a winning season and it is a testament to how hard this team has worked,” Head Coach Mike Foderaro said. “The seniors gave their all today and helped power us through that win.

“We have a big week of practice ahead of us in preparation for the inaugural USA South men’s lacrosse tournament. We are all going into this week playing with heavy hearts in remembrance of one of our former players, Tamarie Sterling. We are T-Strong.”

Cole closed out the day with a game-high four goals, while Mehrtens finished with a hat trick. Stephen Tanner earned his ninth win of the season after recording nine saves.

The Pride will travel to LaGrange, Ga. to play Huntingdon College in the USA South men’s lacrosse tournament on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. For more information on Greensboro College men’s lacrosse, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
