Elon’s Fränkel Takes Home First CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University men’s tennis freshman Kyle Fränkel has been named the CAA Player of the Week on Tuesday, April 10, after helping the Phoenix come from behind to win a 4-3 road battle against CAA-foe James Madison last week.

On Friday, April 6, Elon trailed 3-1 after doubles and three singles matches against the Dukes, but Fränkel started a run of three-straight wins for the Phoenix with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Alvaro Arce Garcia in his first-ever match at No. 2 singles. The win sparked Elon’s comeback with Salvador Mijares and Camilo Ponce following in Fränkel’s footsteps to defeat the Dukes for a fourth-straight match. Elon’s triumph snapped a two-match skid and pushed the Phoenix to 13-7 on the season.

The team is back in action this afternoon, April 10, when it hosts UNC Asheville at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center at 3 p.m. Elon will then close the regular season on Wednesday, April 11, at 6 p.m. against UNCG – also at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center – before the CAA converges on Elon for the conference tournament April 20-22.
