HPU WLAX s Perrotta Added to Tewaaraton Award Watch List

WASHINGTON — High Point University women’s lacrosse senior Erica Perrotta has been added to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced Thursday (April 12). Perrotta was one of six women in the second round of additions to the Watch List.

Perrotta is the first HPU player to be honored on the Women’s Watch List. The list includes the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse and highlight the contenders for this year’s Tewaaraton Award.

The Tewaaraton Award is given annually to the most outstanding American college lacrosse player. The 18th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held May 31, 2018 at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC.

“We are excited for Erica to be named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List,” HPU head coach Lyndsey Boswell said. “This is not a surprise to us as she is one of the best players in the country and she proves that every day on and off the field. She is the heart of our team and the energy and competitiveness she shows each and every day is a major part of the reason for our success.”

Perrotta is a three-year All-Big South First-Team member and the 2018 Big South Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. She is second on the Panthers with 33 goals, 21 assists, 54 points and tied for second with 34 draw controls, while she leads the team with 27 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers. She ranks 15th in the nation in caused turnovers, 21st in free-position goals, 27th in points and 40th in assists.

On Monday (April 9) against Duke, Perrotta broke the school career record for goals. In 70 games in the Purple & White, she has 131 goals, 80 assists, 211 points, 130 ground balls, 118 caused turnovers and 128 draw controls.
