HPU Track and Field Finishes Action on First Day of Aggie Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The High Point University men’s and women’s track and field teams finished action on the first day of the Aggie Invitational Friday evening (April 13).

In the men’s 800 meters, freshman Siro Pina Cardona placed fourth in a time of 1:54.31. Fellow freshman Anthony Sasso was ninth in 1:57.22, while sophomore Jake Dunn was 13th in 1:59.47. Freshman Brendan McCabe finished 20th in 2:02.05, while classmate Philip Sherwin was 26th in 2:06.76.

Freshman Franzi Jakobs finished sixth in the women’s 800 meters in 2:17.49, while junior Cory Wilson was 27th in 2:39.62.

Freshman Gabriel Stainback placed 10th in the long jump with a mark of 6.33m (20-9.25), while junior Brad Kanney was 21st with a leap of 5.73m (18-9.75).

Stainback finished 12th in the 110m hurdles in 15.24, while sophomore Pablo Romero was 14th with a time of 15:37.

Sophomore Ariel Wilbekin was 22nd in the long jump with a leap of 4.96m (16-3.25).

Senior CeAnna Soper ran a 15.35 in the women’s 100m hurdles and placed 25th in the long jump with a mark of 4.88m (16-0.25).

Action continues Saturday (April 14) at 11 a.m., while another group of Panthers will compete at the Phoenix Invitational in Elon starting at 10 a.m.
