College Women’s Lacrosse Final – #11 Washington and Lee 24, Guilford 6

LEXINGTON, Va. – Claire Fulton and Mimi MacCowatt scored four goals apiece in nationally ranked Washington and Lee University’s 24-6 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse win Saturday.

The Generals (9-4, 5-0 ODAC), ranked 11th in this week’s Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Association’s NCAA Division III Coaches’ Poll, won their seventh straight game.

Guilford’s Audrey Helfenbein scored the game’s opening goal 3:13 into the contest, but Fulton led Washington and Lee’s charge the resulted in a 14-4 halftime advantage. She scored three times during an 11-1 Generals’ run that turned a 2-2 game into a 13-3 affair. Jess Castelo, Dani Murray, and Cordelia Peters each scored twice in the run.

The hosts scored the second half’s first six goals, which made the score, 20-4. MacCorvatt and Carson Pinney both tallied twice in that time.

Ten different Generals found the back of the net, including Landon Shelley, who notched three goals and an assist. Peters (3 goals, 2 assists), Fulton (4 goals, 1 assist) and Alex Meyer (2 goals, 3 assists) each tallied a game-best five points. Rebecca Wellford scored just once, but collected 10 draw controls, which helped the hosts to a decisive 22-10 edge. Hannah Wiltshire and Elliot Gilbert each played a half in goal with the starter Wiltshire making two of the team’s three saves.

Helfenbein had three goals and an assist for the Quakers (6-7, 1-4 ODAC), who were outshot, 44-11. Holly Kozak contributed a goal and an assist. Sarah Sedaghat made 11 saves and four ground balls in goal.

Coach Charlotte Dixon’s Quakers seek to snap a three-game ODAC losing skid Tuesday (4/17) at Lynchburg College. The game starts at 6:00 p.m.
