College Softball DH Finals: Guilford 6-2, Pfeiffer 3-8

MISENHEIMER, N.C. — Guilford College split a softball doubleheader at Pfeiffer University on Wednesday. The Quakers captured game one, 6-3, and dropped the nightcap, 8-2. The Quakers moved to 17-17 and the Falcons are now 31-5.

In the opener, GC handed the Falcons only their second home loss of the season. The game was tied 3-3 before the Quakers plated three runs in the fifth inning, en route to the 6-3 victory. Kayli Blankenship hit a game-winning RBI single in the inning. She later came home on a two-run home run from Anna Wolfe.

Savannah Yale went 3-3 with a homer and three RBI for GC. Pitcher Katie McNeill (3-2) earned the win for Guilford. She scattered eight hits and allowed just one earned run in the complete-game victory.

Guilford had 10 hits to eight for the Falcons. Amanda Sports went 2-3 with a double, a home run, and three RBI for the home club. Kiana Millsaps dropped to 20-4 after taking the loss for Pfeiffer.

The Falcons had the tying run at the plate with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. McNeill then got Makenzie Pennell to foul to first base and then the Quakers caught Vada Blue Sherrill off of second base for the double play and the final out.

Kennedy Lester (11-1) held GC to six hits and no earned runs in the second game. Jule Gough (5-4) took the defeat for the Quakers. She gave up seven runs, but just three were earned in 2 2/3 innings. Haley Green allowed one run the rest of the way.

Pfeiffer recorded seven hits to Guilford’s six. Sports had two doubles in three at-bats, scored twice, and drove in two runners for the home team. Millsaps went 2-4 with a double.

Katy Holt hit 2-3 with a double to pace GC batters. Makayla Crawford went 2-4 for the visitors.

The Quakers host Randolph College in a suspended game on Friday. The contest resumes in the top of the first inning at 5 p.m.
