College Men’s Lacrosse Final – Hampden-Sydney 15, Guilford 5

GREENSBORO, N.C. – John Burke scored four goals and two assists in visiting Hampden-Sydney College’s 15-5 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse win at Guilford College Saturday. The Tigers (12-4, 7-1 ODAC) outscored the Quakers (9-6, 3-4 ODAC), 9-0, in the second half.

Hunter Brown tallied three goals and Burke added two in an entertaining first half. Brown’s goal from Burke 1:32 before halftime gave Hampden-Sydney a 6-5 halftime lead. There were four ties in the first half.

Thanks to face-off specialist Wilson Booth, Hampden-Sydney nine-of-10 second-half face-offs. The edge in possession, combined with aggressive defense and Mitch Renfrow’s solid goaltending kept the hosts scoreless for the final 30 minutes. The Tigers also received solid special-teams contributions. They scored two of their three extra-man goals in the second half and killed off a two-minute, non-releasable penalty, 30 seconds of which was a two-man disadvantage.

Brown added two assists for a five-point afternoon and Shaheen finished with three scores. Ian Levin notched four points on a goal and four assists. Booth picked up a game-high 10 ground balls and won 14-of-20 draws. Renfrow played all but the game’s final 46 seconds in goal and made 11 saves.
