LEXINGTON, Va. – The Greensboro College baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader against the Generals of Washington & Lee University Sunday.

With the two wins, the Pride won the season series between the two schools, 3-1, after splitting a doubleheader on Feb. 18.

Game one
Greensboro took a one-run lead in the top half of the second inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Brayden King before extending their lead to 2-0 on a RBI single by Cameron Peters in the fourth inning.

Once the Pride established the two-run lead, W&L was able to draw even in the contest with a two-run fifth.

Despite only being scheduled to play seven innings, the score remained tied until the top half of the ninth inning when Greensboro was able to break the game open and secure the five-run victory.

The Pride was able to score their first run of the inning on a Generals wild pitch, but they were not done yet. With the bases loaded, Chance Bryant roped a RBI single into center field before Blake Glass tallied a big 2 RBI double to right center, scoring Lincoln Hewett and Scotty McGuire.

Greensboro then scored the game’s final run on a Jacob Rodriguez single.

Peters went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Greensboro, while Bryant and Hewett had two hits apiece. Hunter Curtis, Glass, Brady Dignan and Rodriguez each finished with one hit.

Tyler Garam allowed just one run over 4 2/3 innings, but did not factor in the decision. Joseph Hoelle struck out five generals over the final 4 1/3 innings to pick up his third win of the season.

Game two
Washington & Lee jumped out to a 2-0 lead, after striking for two runs in the third inning, before Greensboro responded back with two runs of their own in the fourth.

For the second time in as many games, the Pride tallied their first run of the game on a wild pitch, but this time both runs came off the miscue as Hewett and Tyler Fuller came across the plate.

Following the two-run fourth, Greensboro struck for yet another run on a wild pitch in the sixth. This time Blake Carroll came in to score after pinch running for Cameron Peters, following a one-out double.

The two teams then traded runs in the sixth inning before Greensboro was able to strike for the game’s final three runs in the eighth inning, securing the 6-3 victory.

Price and Rodriguez each had RBI singles in the inning.

Eli Moravick was credited with the win after pitching 1 2/3 innings in relief of Will Hicks, while Christian Kercado recorded the final out to earn his third save of the season. King and Price both paced Greensboro offensively with two hits.

The Greensboro College baseball team will return to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday when they host the Hornets of Lynchburg College for their final home game of the 2018 season. The match-up will also be the second meeting between the two teams this season as the Pride was victorious on April 3 in Lynchburg, 8-4.
