College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford First After 18 Holes of ODAC Championships

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. – Josh Hill fired a two-under-par 70 Sunday to help Guilford College open a six-stroke lead at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men’s golf championships.

The defending champion Quakers shot one-over 289 as a team under sunny and pleasant conditions on the par-72, 6,895-yard Champions Course at Bryan Park. Hampden-Sydney College placed three students among the top-six individuals and holds a one-stroke lead (295-296) over Washington and Lee University for second place in the 11-team field. Randolph-Macon College (305) and Virginia Wesleyan College (307) round out the top-five teams.

Hill parred the first 10 holes before finishing with three birdies in his final eight holes. After a birdie on the par-five 11th, Hill went bogey-birdie-birdie on holes 14-16 before closing with pars on 17 and 18. He holds a one-stroke edge over Hampden-Sydney’s Parker Smith and Bruce Shober, who both carded 71 in Sunday’s opening round. Washington and Lee’s Brian Peccie and Guilford’s Zach Evens share fourth place after shooting even-par 72.

All five Guilford competitors sit among the top-eight individuals after 18 holes. Quakers’ rookie Addison Manring (Stoneville, N.C./McMichael) birdied 18 to finish in a share of sixth place with a one-over 73. Teammates Kell Graham and James Mishoe sit one stroke behind in a group of four golfers knotted at 74.

Coach Justin Tereshko’s Quakers and the rest of the field will try to conclude the 54-hole tourney Monday with 36 holes. Forecast of heavy rain Monday night into Tuesday forced tournament officials to accelerate the schedule and try to play the 54-hole event in two days.

Guilford, which has won a league-record 16 men’s golf titles, is ranked eighth in the current NCAA Division III Golfstat.com Rankings and Golfweek/Bushnell Coaches’ Poll.
