Elon WLAX: Lamb, Asher Earn CAA Weekly Honors Monday

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University women’s lacrosse seniors Bridget Lamb and Stephanie Asher were tabbed CAA weekly award winners Monday, April 23, with Lamb taking Defensive Player of the Week and Asher Player of the Week.

Lamb had a strong weekend anchoring Elon’s defense, helping the Phoenix to a 2-0 weekend on the road against Delaware and Drexel. First against the Blue Hens, Lamb caused two turnovers and picked up a ground ball, but also scored her first collegiate goal late in the contest to help hold Delaware off on the way to the 10-6 victory. On Sunday against Drexel, Lamb took a career-high five ground balls and caused four turnovers with a draw control in Elon’s 18-13 victory over the Dragons on the road.

Asher had a big 12-point weekend with 10 goals and two assists for 12 points against the Blue Hens and Dragons. Opening the weekend, Asher scored four goals against Delaware, including each of Elon’s first three to start the evening on the way to the victory. Asher then upped her game Sunday with a career-high tying six goals and an assist for seven points. She also had two ground balls and five draw controls in the five-goal victory. Asher shares this week’s Player of the Week award with Towson’s Carly Tellekamp.

Elon will be back on the field Saturday, April 28, for its final game of the regular season to take on William & Mary. First draw at Rudd Field is set for 1 p.m. against the Tribe. After the game, the Phoenix will hold Senior Day festivities to honor its 12-member class.
