Elon’s Brnovich Grabs CAA co-Pitcher of the Week League Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University sophomore pitcher Kyle Brnovich was recognized the Colonial Athletic Association’s co-Pitcher of the Week after a stellar performance in the Phoenix’s 7-1 victory over Hartford on Friday.

Brnovich, who earned the honor for the second time this year, matched a season high with 14 strikeouts in a complete-game, three-hit victory over the Hawks. The Milton, Ga., native allowed just one unearned run in his first complete game of the season. At one point, Brnovich struck out eight consecutive hitters.

Brnovich’s 111 strikeouts this season lead all of NCAA Division I baseball and rank second on Elon’s single-season chart. He is the first pitcher in the history of the Elon program to ever have multiple 100-strikeout seasons. He is 5-1 with a 1.29 ERA over 69.2 innings this year and has held opponents to a .153 batting average. Besides strikeouts, Brnovich also ranks among the national leaders in ERA (8th), strikeouts per nine innings pitched (3rd, 14.34) and WHIP (18th, 0.88).

In his 25 career appearances (24 starts) he has posted 214 strikeouts, a number that ranks 10th on Elon’s all-time chart.

The Phoenix will be back in action on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. to close out a 10-game homestand against the High Point Panthers.
