UNCG’s Caleb Webster(Randleman HS) named Southern Conference Baseball Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the second time this season, sophomore third baseman Caleb Webster will take home the Southern Conference’s Player of the Week award for his efforts last week. Webster hit at a .533 average and led the team with eight RBI as the Spartans went 3-1 during the week, including the first-ever series sweep of Samford.

Webster was clutch all week as he drove in runs in every game, with three multi-RBI games. He had at least one hit in every game, with multiple hits in three games. Webster came up clutch all week as five of his team leading eight RBI came with two outs in the inning. Against Wake Forest, Webster finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and scored twice. In the series with Samford, the Randleman native finished 6-for-10 with six RBI and scored twice, including a 3-for-3 performance in Saturday’s 7-2 win. He added a pair of sacrifice bunts during the week.

Webster and the Spartans are back in action this weekend as they head to Wofford for another tough Southern Conference series. The Spartans currently sit atop the SoCon standings with the Terriers right on their heels.
