UNC-Greensboro’s Ryan Caveness Signs with HiToms

HIGH POINT/THOMASVILLE, N.C. – After playing with the Post 87 HiToms for three seasons, UNC-Greensboro catcher Ryan Caveness will return to Finch Field as a member of the High Point-Thomasville HiToms this summer.

Caveness played for Post 87 from 2014 to 2016 and participated in three American Legion State Championships with the team. He then aided the Kernersville Bulldogs to the Carolina Virginia Collegiate League championship last summer by driving in 25 runs in 37 games.

“Ryan will be a solid defender and thrower for us behind the plate,” said head coach Brian Rountree. “He’ll have an opportunity to contribute to the middle of our order as well. We’re excited to see how he can grow.”

In his first year with the Spartans after transferring from Guilford Tech, the sophomore has posted a .225 batting average in 11 games started while also driving in nine runs. Caveness has yet to commit an error in the field.

UNC-Greensboro currently leads the Southern Conference with a 10-2 league record.

Caveness played high school baseball at nearby Southern Guilford in Greensboro. He joins fellow Southern Guilford product Evan Edwards on the current roster for the 2018 season.

The HiToms will kick off the upcoming season at historic Finch Field on Saturday, May 26 at 6:00 p.m. against Kernersville.
