Brittany Henderson, Wesley Petty And Elizabeth Rogers Receive April Moe’s Hometown Hero Awards

Chapel Hill, N.C. – Moe’s Southwest GrillÒ locations in the Triangle, in conjunction with the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA), has selected Brittany Henderson from Middle Creek High School in Apex, N.C., Wesley Petty also of Middle Creek High School and Elizabeth Rogers from East Chapel Hill High School in Chapel Hill, N.C., as the recipients of the Moe’s Hometown Hero awards for the month of April.

The Moe’s Hometown Hero program offers a platform through which school administrators and personnel, parents, students, and school community members can nominate deserving individuals for special recognition on a monthly basis during the school year. Individuals can be nominated as a Moe’s Hometown Hero for serving as a community role model and making a difference in the lives of the students and school, exhibiting sound citizenship and community service, excelling in academics/athletics (students) and/or positively impacting their peers. Currently, this platform is available to a targeted group of NCHSAA member high schools located within the Triangle area. Each recipient receives a commemorative award and a Moe’s Southwest Grill gift certificate.

Brittany Henderson teaches chemistry and physical science at Middle Creek High School. She also serves as a volleyball coach. A former student of Henderson’s describes her as a hero because, “She always finds a way to help you understand and always tries to make you laugh even when you are having a bad day.”

Recipient Wesley Petty is also from Middle Creek. He is a Digital Media teacher and SkillsUSA advisor. Petty provides constant support and encouragement to his students. As a SkillsUSA advisor, he puts in many extra hours each week by volunteering to stay after school to help his students. A former student says, “Mr. Petty goes above and beyond for his students. He is the best mentor!”

The final recipient of the April 2018 Moe’s Hometown Hero awards is Elizabeth Rogers of East Chapel Hill High School. Rogers is an Instruction Assistant leader at East Chapel Hill High and helps with many different programs at the school. This past year she was active with the football program in helping team morale and fundraising. During the summer, she participated in the Freshman Experience Program and for the past two years has planned an organized the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) college fair. An Assistant Principal at East Chapel Hill says of Rogers, “She has a student-centered mindset and truly believes that given the right oppurtunities, all students can learn and achieve. She is a woman of integrity and strives to bring out the best in everyone she encounters.”

“The North Carolina High School Athletic Association, in conjunction with Moe’s Southwest Grill of the Triangle, is proud to honor and recognize Brittany Henderson, Wesley Petty and Elizabeth Rogers with the April 2018 Moe’s Hometown Hero awards,” said Que Tucker, commissioner of the NCHSAA. “Each of these winners has demonstrated a willingness to surpass what is expected to positively impact the lives of the students and their respective communities. It is their dedication to their students and communities that truly make them Hometown Heroes.”
