College Men’s Tennis Final – Guilford 5, Shenandoah 4

WINCHESTER, Va. – Tate Godwin scored a 6-4, 6-4 first-singles win over Matt Hwang in Guilford College’s 5-4 comeback tennis win at Shenandoah University Friday.

The Quakers improved to 11-4 (8-1 ODAC) with their ninth win in 11 matches. Shenandoah dropped to 7-7 (3-6 ODAC).

The Hornets took a 2-1 lead after doubles play thanks to Hwang and Darian Diaz’s 9-8 (7-5) first-doubles win over Guilford’s Godwin and Graham Pearson. Brett Dubin and Evan Rosenberg won the third-doubles match, 8-1, over the Quakers’ Jarad Gandy and Kai Glass.

Elijah Gregory and Mason Robb got Guilford on the board with an 8-3 second-doubles triumph. Both students also claimed singles wins as Robb improved to 9-0 in the league with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Dubin. Gregory stopped Diaz, 6-2, 6-0, at third singles and the Quakers’ Pearson made it a 4-2 Guilford lead with a 6-2, 6-0 fourth-singles triumph over Zach Frack.
