Elon Softball’s Olson Named CAA Defensive Player of the Year; Two Others Receive All-CAA Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – Senior shortstop Hannah Olson of the Elon University softball team was named the 2018 Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon, May 8. Senior Kara Shutt was also honored as a first team All-CAA selection while Ally Repko earned a spot on the league’s All-Rookie team.

Olson is the first Elon player to be named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year and only the second player in program history to receive an individual major conference award at the Division I level. The Yorktown, Va., native and four-year captain tied the team-lead in defensive assists with 87 in 2018. She also had a big season at the plate with a career-best .387 average while leading the squad with 36 RBI and also adding 16 doubles to her stat line.

Shutt received first team All-CAA honors for the third time in her career after posting one of the best offensive seasons in school history. The Greensboro, N.C., native led the Phoenix with a .425 average – the second-best single-season average in school history – and her 74 hits were tied for the second-best total for the program in a season. She also tied her own single-season school-record with 21 doubles en route to breaking the CAA career record with 63.

Repko appeared in all 52 games during her freshman year, making 51 starts. The Broadway, Va., native led the Phoenix with six homeruns and drove in 23 RBI. During CAA play, she batted .277 with 18 hits with a .543 slugging percentage. She was third on the team with nine multi-hit games and six multi-RBI contests.
