GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men’s golf team opened play at the 2018 NCAA Division III National Tournament Tuesday but their first round was cut short at the Grandover Resort due to inclement weather in the Triad area.

The Pride, who started the day off on the first hole of the par-72 West Course, currently find themselves tied for third at four-over par through 11 holes.

“We were transitioning over to the easier part of the West Course when the horn sounded,” Head Coach Jim Cantamessa said. “The weather suspension is going to change the vibe of the tournament so we have to come out tomorrow morning and finish the first round strong.”

Guilford College and Emory University currently lead the 72-hole event at five-under par after completing their opening round earlier in the day.

Scott Campbell and Levi Grogan currently sit in a seventh-place tie at one-under par through 11 holes, while Luke Grogan is tied for 32nd at 1-over par.

(Levi) Grogan recorded a bogey on his opening hole before quickly moving to one-under with an eagle on the par-5 second.

Following the eagle, Grogan went on to par his next nine holes.

Campbell on the other hand started out his round with back-to-back pars before tallying birdies on the third and fifth holes to move to two-under on the day before playing his final six holes of the afternoon at one-over par.

Jacob Neal currently sits at 5-over par, while Austin Coble is a at 9-over par through 13 holes.

“Levi (Grogan), Scott (Campbell) and Luke (Grogan) really played well today, but it was really good to see Jacob (Neal) settle down after a round start and record five straight pars,” Cantamessa added. “As a whole, I am really happy with how the team responded from a slow start and I hope that we can continue moving forward tomorrow.”

The Pride will conclude their first round on the West Course at 8 a.m. before shifting over to the par-72 East Course for a shotgun start of Round 2 at 11 a.m.
