The Spring high school football practices have begun in and around Guilford County and these should be on-going for the next 3-4 weeks or in the area of 20 days….
The must be non-contact practices, but that usually means no heavy hitting but you will have to bump a few people and simulate hits to get some of your key points across…..Sort of like 7 on 7 contact workouts, but in the Spring you can wear pads, to go along with your helmets so, the Spring practice is about as real as it can get and the Spring workouts will take the players right into the 7 on 7 Football Season, that kicks into gear in mid-June and runs up until mid-July….
Football practice is back and my feeling is there will be no football practice on Wednesday, due to No School, as the the Teacher’s Protest hits Raleigh……
The Page Pirates will have QB Javondre Paige back, along with RB Sincere Davis and WR Cody King and the Pirates have added WR Ford Moser, and they have Cam Gavin back to lead the defense and Page should be loaded….Dudley has one of the best LB combos in the state in Jurriente Davis and Landon Johnson and if their is more balanced/smarter LB in the state than LBJ/Johnson, I want to meet him….Dudley also has to decide who their QB will be and find out who takes over at running back….Southeast Guilford will return QB Ryan Douglas, plus RB/LB Chad Stephens and SEG has brought back to town Damon Cairo(Greensboro College, Grimsley, Northern Guilford) as one of their assistant coaches…..Southwest Guilford will still be very good especially on defense, and so will Northeast Guilford, while Ragsdale laid down a good foundation last season under head coach Johnny Boykin and they should keep getting better and as for the other teams in Guilford County, the jury as is sill out….Eastern Guilford will be a mystery and it should be interesting to see how they hold up after two very productive seasons and with their coach in the recent ‘glory years’, Doug Robertson, now coaching at Thomasville…….
