Ogren, Brnovich Headline Elon’s CAA Award Winners

RICHMOND, Va. – In an announcement made by the Colonial Athletic Association office on Tuesday, May 22, a total of eight Elon University baseball players were recognized with postseason honors. Leading the way were first team All-CAA selections Ryne Ogren (shortstop) and Kyle Brnovich (starting pitcher).

The duo was joined by a quartet of second team honorees in Cam Devanney (second base), Zach Evers (outfield), George Kirby (starting pitcher) and Garrett Stonehouse (DH). Joe Satterfield (third base) was a third team pick, while pitcher Jared Wetherbee was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team. Voting for all of the awards was done by the league’s coaches.

Ogren repeats as a first team selection after leading the team and ranking fourth in the league with a .350 batting average. His 52 RBI paced both the program and the CAA. He also led the Phoenix with 72 hits and 16 doubles this season. Brnovich also picked up his second first team All-CAA honor as the sophomore concluded the regular season as the nation’s leader with 141 strikeouts. That number is an Elon program record and ranks fifth on the CAA’s single-season chart. He is just 10 strikeouts shy of matching the league record currently held by Houston Astros’ ace Justin Verlander. Brnovich is 8-2 with a 1.68 ERA in 2018 and has held opponents to a .152 batting average over 96.1 innings of work. The Milton, Ga., resident is a semifinalist for both the Golden Spikes Award and College Baseball Foundation’s National Pitcher of the Year honor. Brnovich will represent the United States this summer as a member of the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. He earned three CAA Pitcher of the Week awards and was named as one of Collegiate Baseball’s National Players of the Week once this year.
