Phoenix Opens Competition at NCAA East Prelims

TAMPA, Fla. – The Elon University women’s track and field team opened competition at the 2018 NCAA East Preliminaries on Thursday, May 24, at the USF Track and Field Stadium as senior Bryanna Hames competed in the shot put for the Phoenix.

Hames, making her third straight appearance at the regional meet, competed in the shot put for the first time at the NCAA Prelims. The Charlotte, N.C., native threw a mark of 45′ 0.75″ (13.72m) on her first throw before rebounding with her best toss of the day, a 45′ 8.5″ (13.93m) on her second attempt. She would finish the event with a heave of 45′ 3.75″ (13.81m) on her final attempt and ended up 46th overall.

The Phoenix is back in action tomorrow, May 25, for the second day of the NCAA East Prelims. Hames and Bre’anna Warren will be in action for Elon as the duo will compete in the discus throw. That event is scheduled for a 1:15 p.m. start time.
