Discus Results

TAMPA, Fla. – The Elon University women’s track and field team closed out its second day at the NCAA East Preliminaries on Friday afternoon, May 25, with seniors Bryanna Hames and Bre’anna Warren(Western Guilford High School) competing in the discus throw at the USF Track and Field Stadium.

Making their second trip to the NCAA Regional meet as a duo, Hames and Warren began the day looking to crack into the top-12 for the discus despite some weather concerns at the meet. Warren started off the action for Elon and posted her best throw of 166′ 4″ (50.71m) in her first three attempts. The Greensboro, N.C., native sat in third overall after the conclusion of the first flight.

Hames was next in the second flight and looked to join Warren in the current top-12 of the event, which she did after the finish of her flight. The Charlotte, N.C., native had a best throw of 159′ 5″ (48.59m) after her three attempts, sitting in 12th. Warren dropped to sixth after the second flight as both athletes hoped to remain in the top-12 of the event with the third and final flight coming up.

The meet would go into a weather delay prior to the third flight, but once competition resumed Hames and Warren could not hang on to their spots as the duo fell out of the top-12 before the end of the event. Warren would finish 17th overall – a 25-spot improvement from last year’s finish at the NCAA Prelims. Hames finished 28th overall at the meet as both athletes concluded their Elon careers as two of the best throwers in school history with numerous individual records and achievements.

Elon finishes its stay at the NCAA East Preliminaries on Saturday, May 26, with junior Coralea Geraniotis competing in the 5,000-meters. The start time for that race is scheduled for 8:45 p.m.
