Wyndham Invitational presented by BB&T American Junior Golf Association Results: Karl Vilips takes one-stroke lead at Sedgefield Country Club

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Australian Karl Vilips, the No. 1 player in the Rolex AJGA Rankings, claimed sole possession of the lead after a second-round 2-under-par 68. Vilips leads by one stroke heading into Thursday’s third round at Sedgefield Country Club’s Pete Dye Course, totaling a 5-under-par 135.

“I was a lot more aggressive today than yesterday,” said Vilips. “I went for No. 3, No. 15, and I really had a lot of opportunities again. I just was unable to really capitalize on my opportunities on the greens.”

The Wyndham Invitational presented by BB&T enters its 17th year in Greensboro, North Carolina, with 72 of the top boys in the country. Seventy-eight alumni of the Invitational have gone on to compete on the PGA TOUR, including Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler and Patrick Reed, along with past champions Justin Thomas and Brian Harman.

Vilips, out of Wesley Chapel, Florida, is bidding to win his fifth AJGA tournament and third Invitational. The Stanford commit previously finished third over Memorial Day Weekend at the Thunderbird International Junior.

Orlando’s Eugene Hong and Austin Greaser of Vandalia, Ohio, are tied for second one stroke back at 4-under-par 136. Hong, a University of Florida signee and a previous winner at the Wyndham Invitational, had the low round of the day with a 5-under-par 65. Greaser’s three back-nine birdies offset two opening bogeys for a late surge.

Trey Davis of Plumas Lake, California, is in solo fourth after 36 holes at 3-under-par 137. Drew Doyle of Louisville, Kentucky, and Trey Bosco of Austin, Texas, sit tied for fifth at 2-under-par 138.

Third-round tee times will run from 7 a.m. ET to 10:50 a.m. ET on Thursday, June 14.
