Elon Men’s Tennis Phoenix Ranks Ninth in Final ITA Carolina Region Poll

ELON, N.C. – Elon University men’s tennis has been selected ninth in the final ITA Carolina Region poll, checking in among the best in the region for the fifth time in the last eight seasons.

The Phoenix takes the No. 9 spot for the second time in three seasons after owning the spot following the 2016 campaign. Elon’s high in the Carolina Region poll is No. 7, which came after the 2011 season when the Phoenix won 18 matches.

In 2018, the Phoenix earned a 16-8 dual-match record while reaching the semifinals of its conference tournament for the sixth-consecutive season. Felipe Sarrasague was tabbed the CAA Player of the Year, giving Elon the league’s top postseason honor for the second time in four years the program has been a part of the CAA. During the campaign, Elon won seven matches in a row during the month of March, marking the longest winning streak since the team won seven-straight matches from March 11 to April 3, 2016.

National champion Wake Forest topped the poll at No. 1, followed by North Carolina, South Carolina, NC State and Duke rounding out the top five. Closing out the Top 10 was Clemson, UNCW, Furman, Elon and Charlotte. During the campaign, the Phoenix took on six of its fellow nine Top-10 programs in the region in Wake Forest, South Carolina, NC State, UNCW (twice), Furman and Charlotte.
