Fontaine Announces 2018 High Point Women’s Soccer Schedule

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Head Coach Brandi Fontaine has unveiled the fall 2018 schedule for the High Point University women’s soccer team, her first at the helm of the program. The Panthers are coming off consecutive Big South regular season championships and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2017.

“I am very excited about our schedule for this upcoming fall as we begin under new leadership and welcome in a class of 13 players,” Fontaine said. “I believe this schedule will challenge us, test us, and prepare us for Big South Conference play.”

The 2018 slate features a slew of regional non-conference action as well as two new additions to the Big South docket. The Panthers will play their entire non-conference schedule within Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina with each regular season game within four hours of HPU.

High Point will open the season at home for the first time since 2015 when it hosts Appalachian State (Aug. 17), a team it defeated 1-0 in last year’s season opener. The Purple & White then embark on a three-game road swing to UNCW (Aug. 19), VCU (Aug. 24), and Virginia Tech (Aug. 26). The Hokies represent the lone “Power 5” opponent on this year’s slate.e

A pair of intra-Triad rival clashes follow at home against Elon (Aug. 31) and at UNCG (Sep. 3) before HPU wraps up non-conference play by hosting Marshall (Sep. 7) and traveling to James Madison (Sep. 9).

Big South play begins with a rematch of last year’s Big South Championship Game, won by the Panthers, as HPU hosts Longwood on Sep. 19 at 7 p.m. High Point then battles the two newest conference foes in Hampton (Sep. 19) on the road and USC Upstate (Sep. 22) at home on family weekend.

The rest of the conference schedule includes games against Presbyterian (Oct. 3), UNC Asheville (Oct. 6) on homecoming, and senior night vs. Gardner-Webb (Oct. 17). HPU will have a pair of two-game road trips in conference play, first to Campbell (Sep. 26) and Radford (Sep. 29) and then visits to Charleston Southern (Oct. 10) and Winthrop (Oct. 13).

The Big South Tournament quarterfinals will take place the weekend of Oct. 26-28, hosted by the higher seed. The tournament semifinals and finals will be hosted at the Sportsplex in Matthews N.C. on Nov. 2 and 4, respectively.
