  1. Our poll is for the entire area the News & Record covers, which is Guilford and Rockingham counties and Bishop McGuinness. We’ve ranked Reidsville for all 19 years that I’ve been at the News & Record.

  2. The biggest questions for me coming into this season for Page was the replacement of the 3 senior standout LBs and the 2 cornerbacks. Now that we have seen some live competition and the season is underway, i figured id weigh in on it. Please note that no one is crowning anyone and this is just my observations and 2 cents.. We all know that all kids have a lot to learn, as everyone continues to work and get better everyday.

It’s been pretty interesting to see how things unfolded so far for Page’s defense. The corners and defensive secondary have developed quite nicely so far. Replacing the 2 senior corners from last year are a tandem of 6’2 170lbers, cj crump and joshua butler-garner. The linebacker situation has really been something to keep an eye on as well. The emergence of safety isaiah fisher-smith has given alex angus the opportunity to use his athleticism and tackling/ball-hawking ability closer to the line of scrimmage at LB. Plugging in last years OLB stephen scott into the middle with 15 added lbs of mass has helped alleviate the situation as well. jones and sophomore doggett have also made plays early on this season.

The defense last year was very good at stopping the run and getting to the quarterback, its been much of the same this season, add on the extra length and size of the corners and the Pirates are looking to have another year of well above average defensive output.

  4. It’s funny how Wake Forest HS got really good after splitting with Rolesville. All of a sudden kids from Raleigh and even Durham who don’t live anywhere near the school start turning up on their roster and, unlike Garner, they’re not a magnet school. It’s almost like Mallard Creek.

Wonder what Reggie Lucas’ recruiting budget is like?

  5. I am surprised that Lucas is still there coaching at Wake Forest now…..I thought he would be a college assistant coach somewhere by now…
