Elon Football Moves Up to No. 14 in Both National Polls

ELON, N.C. – Elon University football moved up one spot to No. 14 in the nation in both the STATS FCS Poll and the AFCA Coaches’ Poll on Monday, Sept. 10.

After posting its largest win over a nationally-ranked opponent in beating No. 21 Furman on Saturday, Sept. 8, Elon received 1,842 points in the STATS poll and is between No. 13 Nicholls and No. 15 Montana, respectively. In the Coaches poll, the Phoenix earned 310 points.

Next on the schedule for the Phoenix is its first CAA Football date on Saturday, Sept. 15, with a 6 p.m. kickoff on the road against William & Mary. The Tribe is 1-1 on the season with a 14-7 win in the opener over Bucknell and a 62-17 loss on the road to Virginia Tech.

Six CAA teams remained in the Top 25 this week. In the STATS poll, other ranked CAA teams include James Madison (No. 2), Villanova (No. 10), Maine (No. 17), Stony Brook (No. 24) and Rhode Island (No. 25). Delaware, New Hampshire and Richmond are also all receiving votes.

In the Coaches poll five teams are ranked with Elon with the others being James Madison (No. 2), Villanova (No. 10), Maine (No. 20) and Stony Brook (No. 21) with three others – Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Delaware – getting votes.
