Cumberland County football teams won’t play Friday, Sept. 21, county athletic director Vernon Aldridge said Tuesday evening.

Per NCHSAA rules, football teams must have at least three days of practice before playing after being out for five or more days.

Due to Hurricane Florence, which has caused destruction and flooding across eastern North Carolina, Cumberland County schools have been out since Thursday and are scheduled to be out at least through Wednesday, Sept. 19.

If schools resumes Thursday, Cumberland County teams will be eligible to play as early as Monday, provided teams can practice Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
