Elon Football Phoenix Reaches No. 5 in AFCA Coaches Poll

ELON, N.C. – Moving to 6-2 on the season with a home win over Rhode Island over the weekend, Elon University football checked in at No. 5 in the AFCA Coaches Poll and No. 7 in the STATS FCS Poll on Monday, Nov. 5, ahead of its final regular-season home game this weekend against Towson. With this week’s release, Elon is again the highest-ranked team in CAA Football.

In the AFCA poll, Elon earned 522 points and sits between No. 4 Weber State and No. 6 South Dakota State. In the STATS poll, the Phoenix picked up 2,928 points and is between No. 6 South Dakota State and No. 8 Jacksonville State.

This week, Elon will welcome No. 20 Towson to Rhodes Stadium for Senior Day at 12 noon. The Tigers have lost each of their last two games and have tumbled to No. 20 in both polls this week.

Elon is followed by five other CAA teams in the AFCA poll in James Madison (No. 10), Delaware (No. 12), Stony Brook (No. 15), Towson (No. 20) and Maine (No. 21). In the STATS poll, Elon is accompanied by James Madison (No. 9), Delaware (No. 11), Stony Brook (No. 12), Maine (No. 16), Towson (No. 20)

To close the regular season, Elon is set to face two nationally-ranked foes with No. 20 Towson visiting this week before the regular season ends with a trip to No. 16/21 Maine on Nov. 17. Selection Sunday for the FCS Playoffs is set for 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18.
