HPU WBB Falls Kentucky, 71-49

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The High Point University women’s basketball team fell to Kentucky, 71-49, today (Nov. 18) in Memorial Coliseum.

The Wildcats (4-0) shot 44.1 percent (26-59) to the Panthers’ 28.3 percent (15-53). HPU turned the ball over 19 times to UK’s 15.

Senior Emma Bockrath was the leader for the Panthers with 14 points, while senior Lindsey Edwards added 10 points add grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

“We can take a lot of positives from today’s game,” head coach DeUnna Hendrix said. “We’ll review film and assess how we can be better moving forward. With a quick turnaround, we’ll need to take a forward focus approach as we prepare for Miami of Ohio on Tuesday.”

The Panthers trailed 42-28 going into halftime and cut the lead to 42-31 at the beginning of the third quarter. Kentucky then went on an 8-0 run to stretch the lead to 57-35. The Wildcats’ largest lead was 26 with 4:58 left in the fourth quarter. The Panthers reeled off six-straight points in response to the lead.

High Point began the game with a 5-0 lead after Edwards made a layup and Bockrath drained a three. The Panthers had three players in double-figures as senior Shea Morgan added 10 points.

Kentucky had four players in double-figures, led by Maci Morris with 22 points.

Up next, the Panthers will travel to Oxford, Ohio on Tuesday, Nov. 18 to take on Miami (Ohio). Tip-off is set for 12 p.m. in Millett Hall on Miami’s campus.
