Big Weekend for local Women’s Basketball Players:Update on Elissa Cunane(Northern Guilford HS), Paris Kea(Page HS), Lindsay Gauldin(Northwest Guilford HS) and Jazmin Harris(Eastern Guilford HS)

Elissa Cunane(Northern Guilford High School) leads N.C. State Women’s Basketball to victory
Freshman center Elissa Cunane led all players with 23 points on 7-16 shooting and an impressive 9-11 success rate from the free-throw line.

RALEIGH – The 17th-ranked NC State women’s basketball team began a season with a perfect 4-0 record for the eighth straight year on Sunday afternoon by defeating visiting Radford 75-58 on Kay Yow Court inside Reynolds Coliseum. The win was NC State’s 22nd consecutive non-conference home win, a streak that dates back to December 2015.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair that featured seven lead changes in the opening 17:05, but once NC State took a 25-24 advantage with 2:55 remaining in the second quarter, the Highlanders did not reclaim an advantage the rest of the way. NC State led by 13 points (38-25) with 8:07 remaining in the third quarter and withstood a 17-4 Radford run that tied the game at 42 points apiece with 3:23 remaining in the third quarter. The Wolfpack closed out the quarter by scoring 15 of the next 20 points to take a 10-point advantage into the fourth stanza and never allowed the Highlanders any closer than eight points during the rest of the game.

Freshman center Elissa Cunane led all players with 23 points on 7-16 shooting and an impressive 9-11 success rate from the free-throw line. She was joined in double figures by 14 points from both Aislinn Konig and Kiara Leslie. Leslie pulled down a team-high 14 rebounds to earn her second double-double of the season. Guard Grace Hunter also had a terrific day on the boards, grabbing 10 rebounds.

Paris Kea, from Page High School, with just five points on Sunday in the UNC Tar Heels loss to Colorado….Kea had 15 points for the Heels last Wednesday in a win over VCU….

Guilford College feel to Emory University on Sunday, 67-45 and the Quaker women were led by Lindsay GauldinGauldin(Northwest Guilford High School) was the lone Quaker to score in double figures. She had 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting…Lindsay also had 12 points for Guilford in a loss to Greensboro College, back on Saturday….

This was Greensboro College and Guilford College in the Daly 7 Classic Tournament…
Ashley Oldshue(Emory University) was joined on the tournament team by Guilford’s Gauldin(Northwest Guilford HS) and EU teammate Erin Lindahl. Amanda Gerni (Virginia Wesleyan) and Katie Lewis (Greensboro) were also named to the Guilford College Daly 7 Classic Tournament Team. VWU defeated The Pride, 79-73, in the day’s early game…..Katie Lewis, from Greensboro College, from Southeast Guilford High School…..

++++++++++Let’s add-in Jazmin Harris, from Eastern Guilford HS, who went 10-15 from the field on Sunday, for the Charlotte 49ers and it was 20 big points for Harris, to go along with 5 rebounds and that all came in just 19 minutes of action…Harris’ Charlotte 49ers lost to Fordham, 71-64, to fall to (2-1) on the season…++++++++++
