Game Report on Southwest Guilford vs. Southeast Guilford Boys Basketball:Cowboys ride balanced attack for First Win in first game of the season(Keyshaun Langley with 13 pts./12 assists)

The Cowboys of Southwest Guilford opened up the 2018-19 campaign on the road against the Falcons of Southeast Guilford.

The Cowboys were looking to start this season with a strong opening performance after ending last season on a bitter note.

History was on the Cowboys’ side, as they have not lost to the Falcons since December of 2008. How would the Cowboys debut and could they keep the winning streak against this County foe rolling?

The Cowboys wasted little time getting on the board, scoring off the tip and offensive rebound. The ensuing possession served as an omen for the rest of the night. A foul on Southwest. After a made free throw, it was 2-1. The rest of the frame was a methodical pulling away. By the time the dust settled it was 30-5, as the Cowboys held the Falcons scoreless the final 6:05 of the opening frame.

Southwest scored 6 straight to open the second quarter to make it 36-5. From there however, the Falcons spent the bulk of the frame going to the charity stripe. Using these freebies, the Falcons kept the game within reason and the opening half closed at 49-20.

The second half opened like the game, as the Cowboys used defensive pressure to up the tempo back up and push the margin over the mercy threshold at 70-29. Once the clock started moving, the game ended in a blur.

The final stanza was sloppy on both sides of the ball for both teams, and the clock ran out as the Cowboys won 84-49.

Leading the way for the Falcons was Lars Nilsen with 18 points. The Cowboys were paced by: Joel Pettiford (15, 6 Rebs), Jay’Den Turner (14, 3 Stls, 2 Rebs, 2 Asts), and Keyshaun Langley (13, 12 Asts, 3 Stls, 2 Rebs).
