HPU WBB Panthers Fall to Miami (OH), 68-55

OXFORD, Ohio – The High Point University women’s basketball team fell to Miami (Ohio) 68-55 today (Nov. 20) in Millett Hall in Oxford, Ohio.

High Point (2-2) shot 35.4 percent (23-65) from the field, while Miami (4-0) was 41.8 percent (23-55) from the field. The Panthers grabbed a season-high 17 steals compared to the RedHawks’ 10 steals. Miami out-rebounded High Point 46-30 for the game.

Senior Lindsey Edwards led HPU with a game and season-high 18 points, while junior Camryn Brown grabbed a team and career-high eight rebounds. Senior Emma Bockrath led the team defensively with six steals, which ties her career-high. Bockrath was second for the Panthers in scoring and rebounding with 16 points and five boards.

“Again, a lot of positives to take from this,” head coach DeUnna Hendrix. “We forced 17 turnovers against a Miami team who usually takes care of the ball pretty well. I thought our defense was pretty solid. Take out the third quarter and it’s more of a game. I’m really proud of our effort. I felt like we played hard for 40 minutes. We will take all the positives from this and get better.”

HPU began the second half with two-straight baskets to take a 34-32 lead. After the teams traded a few baskets, the RedHawks then went on a 7-0 run to take a 43-38 lead. Maimi brought a 56-47 lead into the fourth quarter. The RedHawks finished the game on a 10-4 run.

The Panthers snagged nine steals and forced the RedHawks into 13 turnovers in the first half. High Point tied the game at 26-26 with 3:51 left in the second quarter after a 7-0 run capped by jumper from Brown. The Purple & White shot 36.7 (11-30) percent from the field in the first half, while Miami (12-29) made 41.4 percent.

Lauren Dickerson led the RedHawks with 16 points, while Kendall McCoy and Savannah Kluesner grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds each.

Up next, the Panthers will travel to Davidson, N.C. to face Davidson on Monday, Nov. 26. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in John M. Belk Arena on Davidson’s campus.
