HPU Volleyball Draws Marquette In NCAA Tournament

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University volleyball team was selected to play No. 14 overall-seed Marquette in Milwaukee, Wis. The Panthers will travel to Milwaukee, Wis. to take on the Golden Eagles on Friday, Nov. 30.

The Purple & White (21-9) won the Big South Regular Season and Tournament Championships this season. HPU defeated Radford, 3-0, on Nov. 18 in the Big South Championship to claim the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The bid marks the fourth NCAA Tournament for the program after the team garnered the Big South’s automatic bids in 2010 and 2016 and earned an at-large berth in 2017. This will be a program-record third-straight trip to the national tournament.

“Anytime you get to play in the NCAA Tournament it is an honor. Coming from Creighton, I know Marquette pretty well, but they have some new players and are running a 6-2 this year as opposed to a 5-1. They have one of the best players in the country with Ali Barber and a terrific middle in Jenna Rosenthal. We’ll get working tonight to learn as much as we can, but we know this will be a fantastic match. We look forward to getting up to Milwaukee.”

High Point finished the season ranked No. 56 in the RPI, while Marquette is ranked No. 15 in RPI and is the No. 14 overall-seed.

In its first two trips to the NCAA Tournament, HPU fell in three sets at Duke (2010) and at North Carolina (2016). The Panthers lost 3-1 to Purdue in their 2017 trip.
