Women’s College Basketball: Virginia Wesleyan 56, Guilford 46

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Jayla Harris had a game-high 19 points as Virginia Wesleyan University rallied for a 56-46 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over Guilford College on Sunday afternoon. The Marlins outscored the Quakers 26-4 in the fourth quarter en route to the victory.

Virginia Wesleyan improved to 3-3 and 1-0 in the ODAC. The Quakers fell to 2-3 and 1-1 in league play.

Harris mad seven-of-21 shots and two three-pointers for the home team. Teammate Amanda Gerni contributed 12 points for VWU.

Guilford led 34-20 at halftime. The score was 42-30 heading to the final 10 minutes. Virginia Wesleyan held the Quakers to nine-percent (1-11) shooting the fourth period.

Guilford had three players record double-figures in the contest. Freshman Calyn Davis netted a team-best 12 points. She was four-of-14 shooting and made two baskets beyond the arc. Jla Hinson and Monell Dunlap both came off the bench to tally 10 points. GC led in bench points, 23-16.

Virginia Wesleyan had 19 turnovers but forced 28 Quaker miscues. Both clubs collected 40 rebounds in the game. Guilford’s Lindsay Gauldin grabbed a game-high 10 boards.

The Quakers shot 33-percent (16-49) for the game. The Marlins shot 20-62 (32-percent). VWU led in three-point baskets (7-3).

Guilford returns to action on Wednesday (11/28) at Roanoke College. The ODAC game begins at 7 p.m.
