Earl Smith stepped down as the head football coach of the Wilmington New Hanover Wildcats on Monday, just after his ‘Cats were beaten, 42-21, by the Greensboro Dudley Panthers, back on Friday night, in Round Two of the NCHSAA 3-AA East playoffs…..

Here is what Coach Earl Smith was saying about his departure from New Hanover, on Monday:

“As of today, I am retiring as football coach at New Hanover High School,” the statement read. “I will miss the interaction with our players, and watching them develop into young men. I am very proud of our great coaching staff, and one of the best groups I have ever worked with.”
